Tajpur Rd residents call on Seechewal

Ludhiana: Reeling under water accumulation in their area even without rain, residents of Tajpur Road Saturday called on MP Balbir Singh Seechewal , who is better known as an environmentalist, to find a permanent solution to the problem.

A day earlier, they had staged a demonstration in protest against severe waterlogging in their colonies, and blocked Tajpur Road for several hours disrupting traffic. It was only after the authorities assured them of resolving the issue that they withdrew their protest. They have, however, given them a one-week ultimatum to fix things and unclog the blocked sewer lines so that water does not stagnate on the roads.

Ward 20 councillor Chatarveer Singh, who was leading the protest, blamed it on civic body officials saying they did not bother before linking the domestic sewer connections with the storm sewer line. He said when the storm sewer line was closed, and Seechewal saw that water was still coming from there without rainfall, the civic officials realised that the connection was faulty.

Singh said the officials have assured that they will drain out the water from the streets with the help of machines and the pipelines carrying sewage would be cleaned in a week.
