Panaji: Panaji police on Sunday arrested 24-year-old Karnataka resident Suraj Dodamani and cracked an alleged gold theft case. Police also seized stolen items worth Rs 3.6 lakh.

SP North Akshat Kaushal said that a complaint was received at Panaji town police station from Rajesh Shirodkar, a resident of Porvorim, stating that on two separate occasions, an unknown person committed theft from his shop at Caranzalem.

Accordingly, Panaji police registered a case and started an investigation.

“During the investigation, CCTV footage from the scene was reviewed. Using this and additional footage provided by the Smart City surveillance network, Panaji police team, through local intelligence, identified and arrested the accused,” Kaushal said.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed the details to police and the stolen items — three gold chains — were recovered, the SP said.
