Mangaluru: Despite moving down to second position in the II PU results across Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada achieved a notable accomplishment worth celebrating. While DK bagged two first ranks in commerce and science, students from the district also figured in the toppers list across all three streams.

The district secured the first place in the state in 2022 (88%), 2023 (95.3%), and 2024 (97.4%). This year, the district is very close to Udupi in terms of percentage of results. While Udupi secured 93.9% results, it is 93.6% for Dakshina Kannada.

DDPU Shridhara HG explained that the district's strong academic performance was sustained through govt programmes and dedicated teacher involvement. The results percentage gap between Udupi and Dakshina Kannada remains minimal. Additionally, Dakshina Kannada's achievement was enhanced by producing two top-ranking students.

He noted that teachers in Dakshina Kannada ensured their fullest involvement to implement the education department's initiatives aimed at improving the PU results. Taluk level committees, involving college principals and subject teachers from arts, commerce, and science streams, strived to improve the results. The committees visited the govt PU colleges regularly to monitor educational activities periodically. Remedial classes for academically weaker students, regular unit tests, and revisions helped the district maintain the quality of education, he said.

Noting that the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are known as educational hubs, he added that several institutions recorded 100% results in the region.

DC felicitates toppers

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP and Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Anandh K felicitated Deepashree S, a student of Canara PU College, Kodialbail, who bagged the first rank in the commerce stream, and Amoolya Kamath of Expert PU College, who bagged the first rank in the science stream, on Tuesday.

Assembly speaker UT Khader congratulated the students of Udupi district for securing the first position and Dakshina Kannada district for securing the second position at the state level in the II PUC examinations. "It is commendable that the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, which always holds a high position in educational quality, continues its legacy. The students here are renowned for their hard work and dedication," he said. He expressed his appreciation to the students, lecturers, parents, and educational institutions of both districts for this achievement.
