Mangaluru: It is not every day that a student from a govt college makes it to the top of the charts, but Shreevidya N from Government PU College, Kaniyuru in Puttur, did just that, by scoring an impressive 595 in the II PUC (science) exams.
While most would be thrilled, Shreevidya is modest and slightly disappointed. "I lost two marks in maths. I was expecting full marks. I plan to apply for revaluation," she said, with quiet determination.
Shreevidya's academic journey is all the more inspiring because she studied in the Kannada medium at a govt school. "My father always believed that students from govt schools can achieve great things. It is not about the institution, it is about how focused you are," she said.
Her father, Narayana AK, is the headmaster of Pragati English Medium School, and her mother, Shailashree, is a homemaker. Her elder sister, a BSc student, also topped Kadaba taluk in PUC.
A disciplined student, Shreevidya clocked three to four hours of study daily, and is now aiming higher. "I want to pursue a BSc and later do an MSc in maths. I will also start preparing for the UPSC," she says.
College principal Jayanthi K is all praise for her. "She is an exceptional student who did not take any private coaching. She is active in extracurricular activities, obedient, grounded, and is a role model to other students. Her family has been a pillar of support."
"It is a noteworthy achievement that our district has a topper from a government PU college. Shreevidya has made the district proud by entering the toppers list," DDPU Shridhara HG said.
