Rajkot: A 32-year-old woman allegedly ended her life by jumping into a well, taking along her four children in Sumra village of Jamnagar district's Dhrol taluka on Thursday.
The children were aged between three years and 10 years, police sources said. While police are working to ascertain the exact trigger for the drastic step, it is suspected that the woman, Bhanu Toraiya, was distressed with domestic fights and financial struggles. She plunged into the well on a farm along with her sons, Ritvik (3), Aayush (10), and daughters Anandi (four) and Aaju (eight).
Some villagers noticed the bodies floating in the well and alerted others. They retrieved all five bodies and called the police and emergency responders. Upon receiving the information, Dhrol police rushed to the village and carried out necessary formalities before sending the bodies to the govt hospital for postmortem.
"The woman may have been disturbed due to domestic conflicts, leading to this extreme decision. However, further investigations are underway, and we will record statements of other family members to know the exact reason," said a police officer.
