Ranchi: People thronged the Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakram organised by Jharkhand police with complaints ranging from dowry demands to cheating in jobs and land disputes.
Sources in the police headquarters said 2,109 complaints were taken up in the programme held at 88 places across the state. As many as 256 complaints were registered in Ranchi, which was the highest in the state.
Senior officers, including inspector general of police (IGP) Manoj Kaushik and DIG cum Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha issued several directives to deputy superintendents of police, officers in-charge of police stations to address the cases.
In a case related to a property dispute at Kanke, a land broker, identified as Imran, was sent to police station under detention on charges of interfering in the property of a trader.
Another complainant, Rakhi Kumar of Sukhdevnanaer area, alleged that she was married to a man in Chandakyari in Bokaro in 2018. After her husband died of Covid, her in-laws threw her out and were not giving her the legitimate share of her property, she alleged. Senior police officials ordered the officer in-charge to register a case.
An elderly woman, Nasreen Aman from Doranda, alleged that her two sons and their wives assaulted her . She was forced to live at her parent's home for the last eight to nine months, she alleged.
Furthermore, one Shenaaz Khatun opined that she and her husband have been expelled by her in-laws when her parents could not pay a dowry of Rs 5 lakh. Police ordered for registration of case under the domestic violence act.
The IG said, "Police should not take complaints as routine matter. Their action in each case would be documented and reviewed by the DGP and me. In any situation, police officers should not misbehave with the complainants at the police stations."
