From ‘Shaktimaan’ to ‘Bhishma Pitamah’ Mukesh Khanna in his career span has played several powerful and iconic roles. Right from his debut in ‘Roohi,’ the veteran actor never looked back. When he was at the peak of his career, he had everything, name, money, fandom. Yet, despite being so popular he was never linked with any actress.
Back then, when news of other actors’ affairs was making headlines, speculations regarding Mukesh Khanna’s love life never made news. However, there was one rumour that surrounded him back then. People believed that since he played the mythological character of Bhishma Pitamah, he had taken the Bishma Pratigya, the celibacy vow.
However, the actor did put the rumours to rest during one of his old interviews. He mentioned he didn’t take any such vow, if anything, he never crossed paths with any such lady who he could consider for marriage.
Talking about why he didn’t get married, Mukesh Khanna during his interview with On The Talks mentioned, "At one time, this was the favourite question of every journalist. Let me tell you that I am not against marriage. People often say that Mukesh Khanna played Bhishma Pitamah, whom he adopted in his personal life, so he did not marry. Let me tell you that I am not so great and no man can become Bhishma Pitamah. I did not take any pledge like Bhishma in my personal life, but let me also say that no one would consider the institution of marriage more than me."
In the same interview, he shared the reason why marriage was not in his cards. According to the ‘Shaktimaan’ actor, his way of speaking his mind, and the controversies they bring, perhaps is the reason why people find it hard to bond with him. Many even believed that Mukesh was against the institution of marriage, but that wasn’t true according to the actor. He said, "If I have to get married, it will happen; now a girl is not going to be born for me. Marriage is my private matter, I do not have no wife. I am not against marriage. A marriage is written in destiny, affairs aren't written.
“Let me end this controversy once and for all. Marriage happens to those who have it in their destiny. By the way, because of my habit of speaking my mind, a lot of controversial things are associated with me," he concluded.
