Oklahoma City Thunder registered a massive win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 7, but Thunder power forward Jalen Williams ’s reasons to celebrate were cut short by the NBA due to one of his actions off the court. Williams has been fined $25,000 for his inappropriate choice of clothing during a post-game press conference. He wore a T-shirt with an abusive word printed on it and was handed a heavy fine as a result.
NBA fans react as Jalen Williams fined for wearing wrong T-shirtJalen Williams wore an unbuttoned shirt over a T-shirt that had ‘F*** art let’s dance’ printed on it. And the NBA had an objection to it.
The statement shared by the NBA was titled “Thunder’s Jalen Williams fined” and read: “Thunder’s Jalen Williams fined. Oklahoma City Thunder guard-forward Jalen Williams has been fined $25,000 for wearing clothing with profane language in his postgame media session, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations. Williams' actions took place after the Thunder's 125-93 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of their conference semifinals playoff series on May 18 at Paycom Center.”
NBA fans, however, didn’t seem convinced by the decision to fine him and mocked it on social media. Reacting to the NBA’s fine announcement, an X user wrote, “What happens to the money the NBA gets from fines? I’ve always wondered if it gets donated.” Another seemed to write in sarcasm, “My son’s life was ruined by that T-shirt. I literally can't think of anything worse that could have happened. We as a society may never recover from this.”
One person also pointed out, “NBA fining him exposed it to more people than he did during the interview. So are you going to fine yourself?” Another opined, “So you can’t cuss in the NBA as far as when you’re doing the interview, but he’s not even saying anything. It’s just shirt and you still gotta get fined, it’s fashion, it’s the shirt, it’s not even a big deal.”
“Well that’s now a very expensive shirt,” joked an X user. Another asked, “Someone got the shirt he was wearing?”
