NEW DELHI: India skipper Suryakumar Yadav gave a candid response when asked about the IPL auction’s impact on players’ mindset during the first T20I against South Africa in Durban on Friday.
Suryakumar acknowledged that it’s natural for players to think about the auction, as they all want to secure a place and make an impression.
"It’s a human tendency; you can’t lie about it," Suryakumar said, highlighting the excitement and pressure the auction brings. However, he emphasized the importance of staying focused on the game and letting performances speak for themselves.
"We were looking to bat first. The wicket looks nice, better than the practice wicket and we will try to put runs on the board. The guys in the dressing room have made my job easier, the fearless approach they play with for their respective franchises and have brought the same approach to the team. When you come here to play a series, a lot is at stake," Suryakumar said at the toss.
Suryakumar’s honest take resonated with fans, as he shed light on the fine balance players maintain between personal aspirations and team responsibilities.
South Africa's captain, Aiden Markram , won the toss and chose to bowl against India.
India, currently ranked as the world’s number one T20I team, have been in exceptional form, winning 21 of their 22 matches in the format this year.
Remarkably, Team India remains unbeaten in Durban in T20Is, adding an extra edge as they look to extend their dominant run in the series.
