Hundreds of Bollywood videos with millions of views deleted from YouTube, what Google said

YouTube has deleted hundreds of AI-generated Bollywood videos . These videos, which had accumulated over 16 million views, were removed by the Google-owned video streaming service following a Reuters report highlighting their similarity to content at the centre of a legal challenge filed by a Bollywood couple. The move comes as Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan , have requested a New Delhi judge to prohibit the creation of AI-generated videos that infringe on their intellectual property.

According to a new report by the news agency Reuters, a popular YouTube channel that shared "AI-generated Bollywood love stories" has been removed from the platform. It previously featured 259 videos, totalling 16.5 million views, some of which were even sexually explicit.

The couple's lawsuit also challenged YouTube's AI training policy. While a judge had previously ordered the takedown of a handful of links last month, the Reuters report noted that the platform was still showing hundreds of similar, manipulated videos.

What Google said about removing the AI-generated Bollywood videos

In an emailed statement to Reuters, YouTube confirmed that the channel mentioned in the news report had been deleted by its creator, and the content is no longer accessible on the platform. The company did not provide further details about the account, titled "AI Bollywood Ishq." Still, it stated that it prohibits harmful misinformation and removes content that has been technically altered or manipulated to mislead viewers.

The report also noted that attempts to contact the channel owner at the previously listed email @AIbollywoodishq were also unsuccessful.

With roughly 600 million users, India is YouTube’s largest market, and the platform remains popular for entertainment content, including Bollywood videos.

The channel’s most-viewed video, now deleted, featured an AI-generated animation of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in a swimming pool, garnering 4.1 million views. The clip portrayed Khan in a relationship with Aishwarya long before her marriage.

Some other AI-manipulated videos cited in Abhishek Bachchan’s lawsuit papers were still available on YouTube last week. These included a clip showing Abhishek posing before suddenly kissing a film actress and another depicting Aishwarya and Khan having a meal together, allegedly angering Abhishek.

The Bachchan family is seeking $450,000 in damages from Google and other lesser-known websites offering unauthorised merchandise featuring their images.
