GUWAHATI: Manipur government retracted its intelligence report from 10 days ago about the infiltration of "900 Kuki militants from Myanmar " amid concerns over the leakage of sensitive information as new police inputs surfaced Thursday that " Kuki National Army (KNA) cadres are set to escort arms, ammunition, and drugs from Myanmar".
Ningthoujam Geoffre, secretary to CM N Biren Singh , explained in a statement that the earlier intelligence shared with police on Sept 16 about militants moving from Myanmar to carry out attacks on Sept 28 was "based on information gathered on the movement of armed groups" to "enable police department to use its machinery and network to develop the information and determine actionability".
"It is now ascertained that the possibility of any such misadventure by armed groups is remote. The public need not worry further in this regard," Geoffre said.
The retraction followed a joint statement by the DGP and govt's security advisor on Wednesday, saying: "There is no basis currently to believe in any such input. In view of the recent reactions from different communities regarding the input of infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants...it is clarified that the input was verified from different quarters, but it could not be substantiated on the ground."
