Navy ships in Iran as part of training

NEW DELHI: Amid near war-like situation between Iran and Israel , three Indian ships are now at the port city of Bandar Abbas in Iran as part of a long-range training deployment to the Persian Gulf .

The visit of amphibious warfare ship INS Shardul , patrol vessel ICGS Veera and cadet training ship INS Tir to Iran signifies "a vital step in strengthening maritime cooperative engagement and fostering mutual understanding", a Navy officer said on Tuesday.

"The Indian ships were escorted by Iranian Navy ship Zereh into the harbour at Bandar Abbas and received a ceremonial welcome on the jetty by dignitaries from the Iranian Navy," he said.

During the visit, the Indian ships will engage in activities aimed at enhancing maritime security and interoperability between the navies of the two countries, which will include professional exchanges and a maritime partnership exercise.
