Sitharaman two-nation visit to Mexico, USA: Full schedule including key meetings

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman began her official visit to Mexico and the USA on Thursday. She arrived at Guadalajara Airport, also known as Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport (GDL), where she was welcomed by India’s ambassador to Mexico, Pankaj Sharma.

Sitharaman's visit to Mexico

The finance minister will be in Mexico from October 17 to 20. This marks her first visit to the country, aimed at strengthening ties between India and Mexico with a focus on trade, investment, and technology. She will meet political and business leaders in Guadalajara and Mexico City.

The ministry of finance posted photos of Sitharaman’s visit to Mexico on the social media platform X, saying, “The Union Finance Minister will engage with political and business leaders from different sectors ... focusing on exploring further collaboration in #trade, #investment, #technology, #innovation, and #DPI, leading to deepening bilateral relations between #IndiaMexico.”


Starting her trip in Guadalajara, known for its technology sector , she will participate in the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable and engage in discussions organized by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

During her visit, she will also tour the headquarters of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a major Indian IT firm in Mexico. Sitharaman will hold discussions with Rogelio Ramirez de la O, Mexico’s Minister of Finance and Public Credit, to explore economic collaboration.

Additionally, the finance minister plans to meet with members of the Mexican parliament to promote economic development. In Mexico City, she will deliver a keynote address at the India-Mexico Trade and Investment Summit, which will include participation from industry leaders.

She will conclude her Mexico visit by participating in a community event hosted by the Indian diaspora .

Sitharaman's US visit
Sitharaman will travel to the United States from October 20 to 26. During her visit, she will attend joint meetings involving G20 finance ministers, central bank governors, environment ministers, and foreign ministers. Additionally, she will be part of the G7-Africa ministerial roundtable.

The finance ministry said, "Sitharaman will engage in multilateral discussions across multiple forums and showcase India's attractiveness as an investment destination."

In New York City and Washington, DC, Sitharaman will join the Pension Funds Roundtable at the New York Stock Exchange and interact with students and faculty at the Wharton School and Columbia University.

She will hold one-on-one meetings with the heads of the World Bank , Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and chief executives of various financial institutions. Furthermore, she will meet representatives from the UK, Switzerland, and Germany. At the World Bank, she will discuss new financial solutions to accelerate development and participate in a discussion on Bretton Woods Institutions.
