Briefed on alleged Iran threats to assassinate Trump, MAGA says Tehran wants 'weak' Kamala in White House

WASHINGTON: Lamenting that he is now "surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen," MAGA supremo Donald Trump on Wednesday said, based on intel briefings, that Iran is trying to assassinate him, even as his associates claimed a Democrat "Deep State" plot to eliminate him.

Trump himself thanked the bipartisan support in Congress to give him more protection, but illustrative of the profound mistrust in the MAGA movement in the US establishment, some of his surrogates accused the Biden-Harris of being in cahoots with Iran, one of whose top military leaders, Qasem Soleimani, was assassinated by the US during the Trump Presidency.

A Pakistan national, Asif Raza Merchant, with alleged ties to Iran, was arrested in August in New York and charged with plotting to assassinate an unnamed US politician, apparently to avenge the Soleimani killing. He remains in federal custody.

It is not clear if an intel briefing to the former president on the threat to his life is linked to this, but the Trump campaign said in a statement that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) briefed Trump regarding "real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilise and sow chaos in the US."

"Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before," Trump posted on social media.

He also thanked the US Congress for "unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service - Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan,' adding, "nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!"

But his MAGA supporters went ballistic alleging ties between the Biden-Harris administration and Teheran. "Harris-Biden-Blinken have been colluding with, appeasing, and subsidizing Iran in what is the biggest foreign policy scandal and act of treason by any administration in American history!" Mark Levin, a prominent Trump associate, tweeted.

Last week, US officials said Iranian hackers sent emails containing stolen material from Trump’s campaign to associates involved in Biden’s aborted re-election campaign in what they indicated was a fishing expedition that got no response. But so deep is the MAGA suspicion of the Washington establishment, which has by and large aligned with the Democrats, that all trust has evaporated following the two domestic attempts on his life.

"Not only does Trump face external threats like Iran and the cartels, but also domestic threats fueled by the decade-long dehumanization campaign against Trump by the Democrat Party and the Propaganda Media," Democrat-turned-Trump supporter Tulsi Gabbard said.

The US mainstream media though believes the Trump campaign is overstating intelligence reports to portray Iran is favoring Harris. The Washington Post accused a Trump spokesman of claiming without evidence that Iran wanted Harris to win the election, referring to his statement that “the terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris , and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump.”

Trump has repeatedly tried to otherize his Democratic opponent in his campaign speeches, repeatedly suggesting that Harris is not even her last name, and referring to her only by her first name to portray her as a foreigner.
