Harris vs Trump Latest Polls (Oct 7, 2024): How close are the swing states?

Send Push
As the US election approaches on 5 November, the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is intensifying. Initially, it seemed the election would be a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden , but the dynamics shifted in July when Biden withdrew and endorsed his Vice-President, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic nominee.

Since Harris entered the race, she has maintained a steady lead over Trump in national polls . Following a televised debate in Pennsylvania on 10 September, her lead increased slightly, moving from 2.5 percentage points to 3.3 points, largely due to a small drop in Trump’s support after the debate. As of October 6, Harris leads Trump by 2.6 points.

While national polls offer a snapshot of popularity, they don’t always predict the outcome due to the influence of the US electoral college . Key battleground states are pivotal in determining the winner, and polls in these swing states show an extremely close race, with only one or two points separating Harris and Trump.

Pennsylvania stands out as particularly critical, being the battleground state with the most electoral votes. When Biden stepped aside, he was trailing Trump by almost five points in these key states, but Harris has gained ground in places like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin since August. If she holds her lead in these traditionally Democratic states, she could be on track for a victory.

  • Nevada: Economic concerns and immigration are central issues as both parties contest this swing state.
  • North Carolina: Controversial remarks from Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson raise concerns about his effect on Trump’s campaign.
  • Pennsylvania: Trump’s survival of an assassination attempt has reshaped the race, effectively sidelining Biden’s re-election bid.
  • Wisconsin: Harris leads narrowly, but key issues such as the economy and healthcare could shift the dynamics.
