MSNBC faces backlash for airing Nazi rally clips during coverage of Trump rally

MSNBC has come under intense criticism for incorporating Nazi rally footage during its coverage of former US President Donald Trump 's historic campaign event at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

The network, known for its left-leaning stance, included clips from the 1939 Nazi rally held at the same venue and drew comparisons to Trump's own rally, which attracted a large crowd.

"But that jamboree happening right now, you see it there on your screen in that place is particularly chilling because in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of a different fascist leader, Adolf Hitler , packed the Garden for a so-called pro-America rally," the anchor said while rolling the footage.

Conservatives were quick to denounce the juxtaposition of the two videos as "shameful," emphasising the diversity of the crowd at Trump's rally. X user @amuse said, "Yesterday's Trump rally was filled with Americans from every walk of life including orthodox, conservative, reform, and secular Jews. I saw a woman in a burka. It wasn't anything like a Nazi rally. Shame on MSNBC."

Furthermore, it was pointed out that Holocaust survivor Jerry Wartski was among the attendees at Trump's rally. Some critics even went as far as accusing the network of "incitement." Tesla founder Elon Musk , who spoke at the rally, also expressed his disapproval of MSNBC on X, calling them the "scum of the Earth."

The Democratic Party has attempted to position itself as the party of positivity and unity, with Vice President Kamala Harris emphasizing this sentiment during her nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in August. However, MSNBC's decision to compare Trump supporters to Nazis appears to contradict that message.

Sam Mitha, a Trump supporter, praised the rally, saying, "Trump had a Revolutionary Rally in New York City's Madison Square Garden. The Energy was unmatched and a Promise of a Better America was on the horizon." He then criticised the media's response, saying, "Liberal Media couldn't handle this, so they ran a Propaganda Campaign simultaneously. They compared this Trump Rally to a NAZI Rally in 1939."

Republican pundit Colin Rugg also highlighted the presence of Holocaust survivor Jerry Wartski at the rally, along with other Jewish supporters of Trump. Wartski, 94, had recently endorsed Trump in a campaign video and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for referring to the ex-president as a "fascist." When asked why Jewish people should support Trump, Wartski responded, "Because he's a mensch."
