A major row broke out on social media after a viral video claimed that some schools in Canada are asking parents not to pack pork in tiffins as it is offensive to some students. There is no official confirmation of this news apart from social media chatter and the video that has gone viral. "Imagine receiving an email from your kid's school teacher asking you not to pack pork in their lunches anymore because it has become offensive to some of the children who are in the class," the man in the video, apparently the parent who received such an email, said.
"Some parents are writing emails to the teachers saying that there are Canadian kids showing up with bacon and ham in their sandwiches and that's offensive to their religion. Just imagine that for a second. It's a school. Not a refugee camp," the man in the video said.
The man has been identified as David DeWolfe, a Calgary-area parent, who posted the video on his TikTok but it is not known which school sent such a memo.
Many social media users called the video baseless and only intended to stir up Islamophobia and said Muslims do not have any problem with what someone else eats.
"Do North Americans need to stop eating ham & bacon? Canadian schools are telling parents no ham or bacon in sandwiches from home because it offends other religions - meaning Islam's Sharia Law," one X account posted, sharing the video.
The video triggered a discussion on Reddit as well. "We already have it. Muslim kids are usually allowed to use the cafeteria to pray. the girls can join but if they are menstruating, they are not allowed in. The prov liberals started segregated schools in Ontario as well. No idea if they are still around but that is how they thought they would help black students...." one commented.
