Mangaluru: Several parts of coastal Karnataka experienced steady and widespread rainfall on Sunday, with some areas reporting minor damage. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the region from July 7 to 10, forecasting continued rain accompanied by strong winds.
In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.9°C and the minimum at 23.6°C. Rainfall data for the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on July 6 shows varying intensity across Dakshina Kannada: Belthangady received 35.2 mm, Bantwal 55.1 mm, Mangaluru 26.3 mm, Puttur 50 mm, Sullia 68.4 mm, Moodbidri 32.5 mm, Kadaba 49.2 mm, Mulki 15.4 mm, and Ullal 34.9 mm. The district average stood at 45.1 mm. One house sustained partial damage due to the weather.
As a precautionary measure, 15 personnel of the SDRF and 10 from the civil defense team are stationed in Mangaluru, while 25 NDRF personnel have been deployed in Puttur. A total of 26 rescue boats are on standby.
Tree falls on power lines in Moodbidri
Moodbidri: A tree collapsed onto a one-way road in Lavantabettu late Sunday night, damaging four electric poles. Fortunately, a car traveling along the route escaped unscathed. Power supply in the area was disrupted, and MESCOM staff are carrying out restoration work.
Heavy rains continue in Sullia
Sullia: The taluk received heavy rains throughout Sunday. Though there was a brief lull in the afternoon, strong showers accompanied by wind resumed in the evening. A tree fell across the Mani-Mysuru highway near Vinobanagar, briefly disrupting traffic.
In Kalanja village, the retaining wall built on the northeastern side of the Kote Sri Subrahmanya Temple collapsed due to the rain. The nearby wedding hall is reportedly at risk due to ongoing soil erosion.
Udupi sees declining rainfall
Udupi: Rainfall in the Udupi district showed signs of decline on Sunday. While there were light showers during the morning and afternoon, the weather cleared later in the day. Areas such as Kundapura, Byndoor, Karkala, Hebri, Shirva, Brahmavar, Kota, Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Kapu, Uchila, and Padubidri experienced similar conditions.
According to the IMD forecast, rainfall in the district is expected to weaken further on Monday.
