Gemini in Gmail App Adds Contextual Smart Replies Feature for Google Workspace Users

Send Push

A new feature for Gmail is incoming, called contextual smart replies in the Gemini version of the app. It will allow users to quickly reply to emails with the help of artificial intelligence power. The feature lets the user reply to incoming emails using detailed replies. Artificial intelligence can process the content of an email and then generate contextually a reply to it. In fact, smart replies feature was introduced way back in 2017, but it only presents a short one-line response. Such a feature is available to Google Workspace users alone, and free platform users will not even get to see this.

Gemini in Gmail Receives Contextual Smart Replies Feature

While managing emails can be a chore in itself, mainly when someone receives several within a particular day, at least Google provided an answer to the problem back in 2017, through the introduction of smart replies which relied on machine learning for the development of three different options for replies towards an email. However, many one-liners failed to contain all the critical information that needed to be added by the user.

Google has opted for the way of a straight announcement from its Mountain View base in a blog post Thursday naming contextual smart replies as an upgraded feature of the system, first debuted in 2017. Using Google’s native Gemini AI models, contextual replies will be offered for which the users will get to see once they enter the email page.

Users will see a number of reply suggestions appear on the bottom of the page after writing the first few words of a reply. All related information regarding their query will be made available in the reply title and content. Chosen, AI will generate a full reply to an email consisting of several paragraphs and involves all the information the sender looks for. The message can then be edited to add in more information or sent as it is.

This feature is available for users who have the Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-ons to Google Workspace. A second set of users that will enjoy this feature is users of Google One AI Premium subscription. Of interest is that it is app-based and functional on Android and iOS.
