Send Push

Udaipur As the sun set over Udaipur on Monday, a chapter of Mewar’s illustrious history came to a close. Maharana Mahendra Singh Mewar, an iconic figure revered not only as a guardian of the royal legacy but as a symbol of valor and dignity, was laid to rest. The final rites were performed at 4 PM, with his son, Nathdwara MLA Maharaj Kumar Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, lighting the funeral pyre in a moving ceremony. The Maharana’s grandson, Devjatyadeva Singh, was by his side, reflecting the unbroken lineage of Mewar’s legacy.

The final journey began from his residence at Samore Bagh Palace, winding through the heart of Udaipur—Jagdish Chowk, Ghantaghar, Bada Bazaar, Bhadbhujagate, and Delhi Gate. By the time the procession reached the revered Mahasatiya at Ayad, the roads were lined with hundreds of Udaipur’s citizens, each paying their respects in solemn silence. Such was the respect for Maharana Mahendra Singh that many shops, particularly in Bada Bazaar and other areas, remained closed as a tribute to the late ruler.

Earlier that day, from 8 to 11 AM, the Maharana’s body was placed in Samore Bagh Palace for public viewing. Mewar’s loyalists and well-wishers gathered, seeking one final moment to bid farewell to a leader they deeply respected. The late Maharana’s daughter-in-law, MP Kunwarani Mahima Kumari Mewar of Rajsamand, was present with other family members. Among the dignitaries offering floral tributes were Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, BJP State President Madan Rathore, former BJP State President Satish Poonia, and many political figures and bureaucrats, all mourning the loss of a towering personality who transcended his royal heritage to stand as a symbol of Mewar’s cultural pride.

Maharana Mahendra Singh had been in critical condition after suffering a severe brain stroke. Despite medical efforts at Ananta Hospital’s ICU, he passed away on Sunday afternoon. His body was returned to Udaipur that evening, setting the stage for the city’s final farewell.

As the last rites concluded and the embers of the pyre died down, Udaipur was left with memories of Maharana Mahendra Singh—a noble custodian of Mewar’s heritage and a figure who inspired generations. His life stands as a testament to Mewar’s unwavering spirit, a legacy that will continue to echo through the hearts of its people.
